History

Jongert has come a long way.

From the first small craft order in 1953 to the superyachts of the current century, Jongert has come a long way.

It has been a voyage inspired by a love of sailing among the managers and employees, blended with the endless enthusiasm and creativity of Jongert owners.

Decades of experience.

The yard initially started building small trawler boats, commercial craft and one-off motoryachts. By the 1960s,

Jongert had graduated to two series’ of sailing yachts, the Trewes and the Zwalker, designed by Siep van der Meer and Willem de Vries Lentsch respectively.

The partnership with De Vries Lentsch continued in the 1970s with the introduction of a second generation of Jongert sailyachts, co-designed with Peter Sijm.

Jongert name as a brand

In 1975 the Jongert Traditional Line was created and the yard enjoyed a high market share in large, luxury sailing yachts.

While the competition has grown, the Traditional Line still remain a niche market for the yard today.

And the introduction of a Modern Line cemented the Jongert name as a brand in its own right.

Major yachting milestones have included:

  • 1982: Mephisto. Cruiser/racer with aluminium hull and deck

  • 1985: Inspiration. First Maxi cruiser/racer, winner of many regattas

  • 1993: Matokaoma. First yacht with sliding roof

  • 1994 Scarena, Blue Papillon, Flying Magic: Three major awards for the Modern Line

  • 1997: Movesita - First yacht with Jongert folding keel

  • 1999: Number One - The Traditional Line passes the 40 m mark

  • 2003: Wellenreiter - Custom-built to an André Hoek design

  • 2005: Ameena - First superyacht launch from new premises wins Showboats Award

  • 2007 Construction starts on first Jongert motoryacht

What all these landmark yachts and the hundreds others that carry the Jongert name have in common is the yard’s unparalleled quality. This is the hallmark of a Jongert.
